Welcome to Amani

Amani is the Swahili word for peace. My hope is that through our work together, you will find some sort of peace or sanctuary in your life, in whatever way looks or feels right for you.

As a qualified systemic family psychotherapist, I work with individuals, families, couples, schools, and in perinatal mental health, offering a safe space for conversations from a relational perspective.

Based in London and online.

What is systemic family psychotherapy?

The Evidence Base

Systemic therapy is well established with a strong and ever-growing evidence base, demonstrating its effectiveness in treating a broad range of difficulties including, anxiety, depression, trauma, relational conflict and distress. It is also recognised in its effectiveness in supporting people experiencing eating disorders and is a prominent talk therapy in the area of perinatal mental health.

In systemic psychotherapy, we pay close attention to all the different relationships in our lives and the meaning they bring: relationships with people, places, life events, as well as our culture and beliefs.

It is a way of understanding and working with things in life that may feel stuck, confusing or painful, not just by focusing on yourself, but rather by focusing on those things going on around you.

A fundamental tenet of systemic thinking is that life does not exist in a vacuum, and no person exists in isolation. The way we cope and make sense of the world is shaped by many things. Our relationships, gender, upbringing, religion and education; to name a few.

A systemic approach helps uncover how these parts of life connect and influence one another. In this process, we will engage in a new type of conversation to uncover patterns that can help you move forward differently.

Amani is the Kiswahili word for peace. My hope is that through our work together you may

No one goes anywhere alone, even those who arrive physically alone…we carry with us the memory of many fabrics, a self-soaked in our history and our culture
— Freire, 1994

Book an appointment

I offer a free 30-minute telephone consultation. This is a space to ask any questions and begin to get to know each other.

If you choose to continue with any of the therapies, I would normally recommend 4 to 6 sessions, each an one hour long, before pausing for a collaborative review of our work and time to consider where we go next.
